I thought the question was based solely on the movie, or specifically the aspects of entertainment? If not, then my apologies for treating it so facetiously.

You are totally right, don't we all know that the Spartans cared about neither property nor land, and lived solely by Lykougos laws?

Likewise, we both know that she married Leonidas, a likely killer of her father, for pure love. That she did not really care about transforming her unofficial status of the first lady into the official one nor was she interested in becoming the mother of the future Spartan King. Who ended up sick and a nonenity, likely, due to inbreeding.

It's certainly a reference to the murder of emissaries, a sacred office in the ancient world.
