There is a new series based on Roman history starting in January. Titled Spartacus: Blood and Sand, it will show the early life, capture, and training of the gladiator Spartacus, who will one day rise to scare the bejeebus out of Rome with his slave insurrection. | | |

OMG!I loved Rome so much and I would have liked a third season too, but the movie will do as well, I guess.
This Spartacus TV Series seems to be very interesting judging by the trailer. I am certain to watch this
Thanks for the info!

Rome was something else. What a fantastic TV show.
2 Seasons didn't seem like enough, but I am kind of glad it didn't go any further. All the well developed characters were gone in the end, and it just wouldn't have been the same show. I personally loved Marc Antony in this show. Without him in the show I would have been a sad panda.
I know the show is 'ROME', so it should encompass Rome's history, but, I think the essence of the show would be compromised without the lead roles from the first 2 seasons. I don't know how a movie will go... I will most likely watch it, but, we'll see.
My two cents at least.

My two cents at least. | You are so right in that Rome would be lackluster after all the wonderful personalities are gone. What would Rome be like without Servilia, young Octavius, Caesar, Anthony, Brutus, and many others?

Rome was a brilliant show. Season 2 was too compressed to be of equal quality to the first. It was originally planned to be staged over about 4 seasons (iirc) but then had to be squashed for budgetary reasons.
I recently watched all four series of The Tudors and regret that it too has come to an end. It would sure've been entertaining to watch young Sarah Bolger (one of the best actors in the show) act out Lady Mary's descent into the religious firestorm that was Queen Mary's reign.
If The Tudors was spoiled by anything (ignoring as we ought all those historical inaccuracies) then it was the period when Katherine Howard was queen. She was a poor actress, the character was limp and the marrative tended to loose some of its direction. I would've prefered that the writers curtail that period and focus more of Catherine Parr's queenship which was far more interesting (given her religious beliefs and intellectual gifts).
