When is Ignorance Bliss in History or Politics?

Hi! I am looking for examples when ignorance (or not knowing or revealing some facts) actually helped a situation or people in history or politics? Thank you!

There are plenty of cases in the last 100 years alone in American history where things were hidden. Take MKultra for example, imagine the back lash if that would of came out back then? Obviously it did later, but I don't recall people going "crazy" over it. Honestly I'm sure more than half the population still does know about it. I think nowadays its truly hard to hide anything.

Hitler hiding the holocaust was pretty wild too. A lot of people who fought for Germany knew nothing about the mass murders that were happening.
