I agree with guius about redoing your thesis. Categorizing Sweden as a super power is stretching it (just look at the swedish colony outcome) Also emphasizing Gustav Adolf that much is unnecessary. One man can only do so much.
I would advise to revolve the paper around the rise of protestantism, and the way it was used as an escape goat in order to intervene in the religious war in Germany in particular. Swedens state and religious interests are closely connected. It is in many ways a battle for protestantism.
Sweden at this was also driven by its war-machine. Reeking havoc in large parts of Germany and was only capable of sustaining on war treasury and taxes.
Ya, it's funny, after considering what Gaius has said, Adolphus really only did so much, as you said, it was more Oxenstierna and some others that deserve as much credit, if not more. The Protestant/30 Years' War area will be my main focus.
I'm reading a decent article on the legitimization of their entry into the war.
Thanks for your help choptop!
I'm sure glad I asked for help on this, I was obviously strewn on the wrong path aha.
Thanks to all who have replied.
I have a bunch of the books you recommended, Pikeshot, on hold at my library. Someone else must be doing a similar paper for all of those books to be out at once aha.
When I get deeper into the writing of the paper I know where to come if I have further questions, you guys are awesome! I'll be sure to give progress reports.
