Re: School... its coming!!!

Vera, a proper time frame for in-service does serve a semi important purpose.
They can be a time for teachers to see each other & actually speak to one another when during the school year, there's little time for that. It should be a relaxed time to gather all the things you need, write letters to parents for public consumption and a host of other things in the classroom.
But the down side in-services are also a power tool by the administration to establish that they are in power and it inflates their egos having people listening to their group talks. I think all teachers hate being forced into group fun games that sometimes we're forced to do at these sessions.

Yes, I understand that, thank you. I just hate waste in all its forms. Especially - administration-forced, oficial.

For example, when I was in the army, there was budget for a quarter, and usually it was inflated, higher than required. So instead of using the money for something worthwhile, or cutting the budget back a bit next quarter (God forbid) - at the end of each quarter there was a frantic flurry of useless activity. The walls repainted; new plants planted (in the desert, where it lived for a month at best); airplanes burned fuel like there was no tomorrow; feasts were held; trucks were painted... Once one of the trucks was stripped in repair, and there was an inch of paint weighing half as much as the cabin! Painful waste.

Of course Vera, because if you don't spend your fiscal year budget, with anything left over, then then next year, your budget is smaller. Pity the notion of being penalized for saving money.

Well said. In-services are purposeful if done in the manor you have stated.

Yes, I know. It's the twisted idea of having inflated budgets that you don't need and not having them when the need is dire - like subsidizing life-saving drugs for terrible diseases that are not included in the usual helth-care package. Pay better salaries to techers so that more teachers who are in the calling can do that, instead of mostly people who couldn't get into computer sciences. Etc. I don't really need to tell you guys, I guess you know.

I know it's very naive of me to even think of this, but I guess I have never lost some of the innosense and always fight for justice.

Well before I am head of classroom, three years, but start back to school on August 26th working towards that. I do get to start my observation hours this year, which I know is no big deal but I am excited simply to be in a classroom.
