Proper citation of sources.

Generally speaking, students today do not have a clue when it comes to citation. Below is a guide to citation (MLA) to help teach students how to properly cite their sources.

Book

Author (last, first middle). Name of Work. Place of Publication. Publisher. Year Published.

Example:

Lawrence, Jonathan. Timetables of American History. New York. Oxford University Press. 1952.

Journal Article

Author (last, first middle). Title of Article. Title of Periodical. Volume. Date: Pages Referenced.

Example:

Lawrence, Jonathan. Essay on American History. National Geographic. 13.6 (1976): 72-94.

Newspaper or Magazine Article

Same as journal article, except no volume needed.

Lawrence, Jonathan. American History in Action. Time Magazine. (1984): 72-94.

Encyclopedia Article (not including online encyclopedia)

Author, title of article, title of book. Edition (if applicable). Location of Publishing. Publisher. Date of Publication.

Murray, Joe. Arthropods. The World Encyclopedia. Ed. New York. Oxford University Press. 1982.

Website

Author. Title of Article. Title of Publication. Date Published. Publisher. Date Accessed. <complete URL including http://>

Chung, Wu. My Favorite Books. Wu Chung's Website. 2003. Unknown. 2007. <http://www.wuchung'swebsite.org>

Note, all examples are 100% fictional.

Your fictional Lawrence Jonathan is one hell of a graphomaniac.
