Early Germany

I am currently reading several books pertaining to Germany after the break up of the Karolingian Reich. The various successors that followed the Karolingian line are quite interesting, including Henry the Fowler and his son Otto, who founded the Ottonian Dynasty and defeated the Magyars. Anyone know about the various states and their dukes at this time?

Re: Early Germany

The story of Frederick Barbarossa, Holy Roman Emperor is very interesting. I don't know how great this source is, and its not very in-depth.

My question is how did greater Germany become the Holy Roman Empire after Charlamagne? Why was the rest of his Frankish kingdom excluded?
