Constantine ΧΙ Palaiologos tribute

His name in Greek was Κωνσταντίνος ΧΙ Δραγάσης Παλαιολόγος. He was the last Roman (Greek in reality) Emperor: he died on Tuesday, 29/V/1453, fighting as a real knight, against the Ottoman troops.

"A legend tells that when the Ottomans entered the city, an angel rescued the emperor, turned him into marble and placed him in a cave under the earth near the Golden Gate, where he waits to

to conquer the city back for Christians.

Constantine XI's legacy was used as a rallying cry for Greeks during their war for Independence with the Ottoman Empire. Today the Emperor is considered a national hero in Greece."

Respect to death. It was noble lost.

But I cant help thinking if he accept the rule of Mehmet II, there wouldnt have fight and civil war. But on the other hand there is tiny bit of chance that Istanbul might survive by the help of Catholics.

Ottomans had to capture the city in one way or another. Because the city was in vitally importan location in the hearth of the empire. I mean she was in strategically deathly position.

It is interesting coincidence that the first emperor and the last emperor of the empire bear the same name. Constantine, as if it is a game of fortune.
