I read a book about Vlad [by McNally and Florescu] and at the end my opinion is that in his own historical context he showed to be "bad", that is to say above the line of a Christian warrior fighting the infidels, but he had his good reasons, because of the lack of support of the official Church and of the Western Christian Lords on a hand and because of the threat coming from the Muslims in the south.
I don't share any admiration for his behavior, on the contrary, I condemn it, ethically, but I understand it in that context.

Didn't he also impale spiders while imprisoned? I remember hearing this, but I'm not sure if its myth or not.
