The last times the Greek nation can claim supremacy.
Eastern Roman Empire is pretty much undervalued in the eyes of the Western World,simply because it was the ABSOLUTE superpower back then.

If I was the ruler back then,I'd form a coalition with Arabs,Persians and Turks to attack the Western Europeans.

For a period period in the 10th c. it was very powerful, but it rarely used this power in imperialistic ventures. Byzantium seems to have been quite content to secure its borders and be left alone rather than exercising the military might that it had.
