What made Arabs effective aggressors?

What made Arabs so effective on field and able to defeat larger and more old empires from the eastern Romans to the Persians, the Germans and far beyond?

Religious fervor, utter ruthlessness, an ability to fight in a manner that was often "outside the box", and often their empire enemies were already grossly overextended, rotting from corruption and infighting.

The "Arabs" never fought the Germans.

Not for the implied time period (i.e. Early Medieval), but I can suppose that Naima is talking about “Muslims” and the Germanic kingdoms (Visigoths…) and had a typo error. Or he is referring to much later timelines… such as against German Crusaders, or even for the 20th century.

The principal factor was the the weakness of both the Byzantine and Persian Empires - with over-extension of their territory and fratricidal wars made their authority weakened and created a power vacuum in the Middle East which made Arabs (just like the Germanic warring tribes and Central Asian hordes in late antiquity/early middle ages) to take advantage of that opportunity to conquer those regions.

Other aspect is the support many Christian sects had for the early Muslim conquerors in the regions controlled by the Byzantine Empire - especially among Monophysite Christians and followers of the Chalcedonian creed and other kind of Christian heresies that existed during that period and had plenty of following in the Middle East.

the Germans? Lol

Arabs were not that effective and they only won because Sassanids and Romans (should read Byzantines actually) were exhausted by centuries of all out warfare. Such is the nature of power vacuums and war everywhere. Nothing special about Arabs then or now.

Today, Arab militaries are seen as jokes that cannot take on a much smaller Israel despite surrounding it and the reason for this is Arab culture's rabid anti intellectualism and regressive tribal loyalties

The Franks were the French though, not the Germans. The Arabs did fight German Crusaders though.

That seems an anachronism, because that begun only after the crusades. And the “Franj” are mostly not Germans. Arab (or better, Muslim) expansion is previous, and, if I understood well, Naima was talking about the Muslim expansion of the 7th to 10th centuries.

Franks were a Germanic people, their name would later be called France by English speakers. Franks were White Western European Christians, ergo all White Western European Christians are Franks. Even to this day.
