If you refer to the battle of Badr Iguess probably have better disciplined warriors motivated to fight .

According to Wiki, Badr seems to hv been a very small battle, with only 49 Quraish killed, and 22 of those by Ali's hand alone.

It was a rather small battle; but it was a decisive victory marking the beginning of the Muslim-Quraysh wars, shaking the morale of Quraysh tribes and signalling the rise of Muhammad and the Muslims as a major force in the Arabian peninsula, plus it was the first major engagement between the two conflicting forces after many skirmishes.

In any case, why do I remember that the Quraysh casualties are 70 dead and 70 prisoner? Spencer Tucker's "Battles that Changed History", Quqaiyyah Waris Maqsood's "Islam" and G. Ahmad's "Unique and Everliving" as well as Richard A. Gabriel's "Muhammad: Islam's First Great General" all seem to say 70 were killed but there are also plenty of contradicting sources. In any case all sources seem to agree there were 70 prisoners.

They should of finished them off at Uhud.

The problem with religion is it grows like a cancer.

It wasn't Muhammed's martial prowess that beat the Meccan's, it was a religious / political movement.

Its like saying How could the French of avoided the Revolution or how could King Charles have stopped Cromwell.

The growth is in the people the ideas effect, Medina became a rival because people flocked to Muhammed's cause.

I think trying to get the jews to defect to their side by hook or crook would have best measure to end muhammad and his little band of revolutionaries.

Frankly, like MamlukWarrior said, Islam was a religion. It didn't grow with Muhammad's growing military genius as much as it grew with the people who began adhering to Islam's ideas.

Humility, simplicity, practicality, inclusivity, unity in diversity, egalitarianism vs elitism etc. These were the principles that Muhammad preached, and it resonated strongly with the heartfelt instincts of many.

If you are the Quraish leader, what will you do in order to eliminate Muhammad and the early Muslims in Arabia?
