What was the role of the Ottoman Empire in the Napoleonic Wars?

Ill admit i have little to no knowledge of the Napoleonic Wars nor of the Ottomans. So really, what were the Ottomans up to at this point in time?

Whatever it was, it was negligible and probably went badly for them.

France has traditionaly been an ally of the ottoman empire and I do believe this was also the case in (a part) of the napoleonic wars. But the ottomans had a far more dangerous enemy luring for their territory: the Russian empire.

Most likely, at this point they were starting to enter their "sick man" phase. yet its hard for me to imagine a power so "great" as the ottomans staying out of the wars completely. Wikipedia lists them as being on the allies side, then switching over to the French, but never really mentions them beyond that.

Im guessing there was little military involvement on the part of the ottomans, but again, i simply cant imagine them staying out of it completely.

Indeed, Russia would prove to be the Ottoman's far more dangerous adversary, were the Ottomans aware of their future danger? were they doing anything about it? plugging their ears and hoping it would go away? I can find precious little (though admittedly i have not looked extensively)

During the Napoleonic era there was the Russo-Turkish War in 1806-1812. From what I gather the war began when Russia sent an army in Moldavia and Wallachia (vassals of the Ottoman Empire) in order to protect the region from the French occupying Dalmatia. Russia won the war just before Napoleon's invasion, giving them a chance to bring their Balkan army that fought the Ottomans back north to fight Napoleon. Russia won some territories in Moldavia and Georgia.

There was also Napoleon's Egypt Campaign in 1798 that put him at odds with the Ottoman Empire and Egyptian Mamluks. However, Napoleon wasn't First Consul yet and this was before the "Napoleonic Wars" depending on who you ask.

Thank you, that helped to shed some light on the subject.

it seems to me that the Ottomans have received much historical neglect. a shame considering how interesting of an Empire it was.
