Seriously, it's incredible that you're still asking these questions when they've been answered countless times already.
I recall discussing the Jewish ethnicity/religion but not the State religion of Israel. And as it is, this is derailing the thread.

Great, you admit we've been through this before. So why are you still repeating nonsense like 'Judaism is a religion, not an ethnicity'?

I but not the State religion of Israel.
And yet, we discussed it.

You should have thought of that before you took it off topic.

No, about his positions, as for I know, he admired Gandhi and he was near to socialist stances.

Anyway I repeat that to be President of the Republic in a state like Israel [or Italy or Germany] you don't need to be a politician, since in these countries the President doesn't deal with politics, but with institutions.

No, but generally the President has a more symbolic and social role, the Prim Minister does the actual political work.

So Einstein would be there to increase international prestige, bring his intelligence to bear on any major problems and generally raise the tone of the new state. It might even help that he wasnt a politician since he would be independent of the various factions, national traditions and cutural arguments that have been notable in Israel since it was formed.

It should also be pointed out that his not being particularly religious was an advantage not a problem, many of the original zionists were socialist/rationalists and the orthodox and religious jews internationally opposed the Israeli state.
They reckon that Israel is a creation of men and politics, a real Israeli nation can only be set up by god.

Interesting dicussion, heres an extract from a talkshow that george galloway explaining why he turned down the offer, however one may say george galloway is anti-israel so do expect a pro-palestine stance on this.

George Galloway was best friends with Saddam Hussein, supports Hamas, Defended Colonel Ghaddafi and was a public face of Press TV the Iranian state broadcaster, he's biased to the core and shouldnt be trusted on anything he says.

Seriosly, at the first sight of a brutal dictator George digs out the lubricant.
