Well I'm interested in studying historical battles and wars that attest to the "badassery" of somali warriors who did the following:

-kept the portuguese out of somalia
-at one point conquered three quarters of abyssinia(something no other empire has ever done, sans Italy, who technically did not even control most of the country after its brief conquest)
-forced the sultan of zanzibar to pay tribute to somali sultans
-razed and occupied Aden, a chief red sea port
-liberated the swahili city states from Portuguese occupiers(the portuguese recaptured these cities but refrained from reattacking the somali realm).
-established a colony in Mozambique(sofala) and controlled its gold mines
-bravely resisted british and ethiopian incursions into their land.

Just blandly stating actual historical events with no emotional attachment or bias whatsoever. I don't see how a country's current state negates the achievements and bravery of its warriors.

edit: I'm not entirely sure but the thetruth27 may be a troll, and possibly not even a Somali.

I read a pretty detailed account of the Portuguese in Ethiopia during the Adal War and they seemed so out of their element there, in a place that not long before was legendary to them and only a few European explorers had visited. Everything was completely foreign to them.

I consider myself Lucky that European badassery was mostly exported to other countries - like Somalia. Then we had the nazis - who were so badass it just wasn't funny anymore. I don't understand why the OP thinks the Somalian badasses acting out in their own country is so honourable. They are destroying their own people, how sad is that.

Agreed, they wasted their time looking for a mythical priest-king called Prestor John, the Europeans originally wanted his aid in the Crusades. The closest thing I know relating to Prestor John was a Franco-Abyssinian invasion of Egypt, it was debated but never happened.

The Portuguese to their credit did save the Abyssinian empire with their musketeers, but Ahmad Gurey personally beheaded the Portugese leader Cristovao da Gama, so yeah. The Ottomans and Omanis had a better track record with East Africa IMO.
