I attempted to do that in this interactive satellite map of
The Rise, Fall and Migration of Civilization Due To Climate Change.
While I am not a historian nor a scientist, this map was linked to by UN-SPIDER (United Nations-Spaced-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response) when it was no my old web site.
To properly view the map for the criteria you desire, open the map and rotate it until you see icons, then change the black base map to either The ESRI Aerial or ESRI NatGeo satellite maps base overlays.
The research in the map is based on any white papers and media articles I could find online on the subject. While incomplete, it provides a reasonable starting point.
I for some reason the map does not load right, go to the education section and find the map in the Geosciences section.
