I'm surprised there has been no mention of Silent Spring by Rachael Carson ISBN: 0618249060 or

A Sand County Almanac by Aldo Leopold ASIN: B004NHX5X0

While extremely tedious, Fernand Braudel's Mediterranean World Part I is practically foundational reading, and a truly brilliant work of scholarship.

J.Diamond should be added, though he is not a historian by profession.

this is one reason i believe the study of migration and diffusion is the MOST important next to geology --- the writing of this battle and that battle pales compared to this --- drought, climate, plague and natural occurances (volcanoes, meteors, earthquates) have done so much more -- what would happen if we had another "tambora" or "toba" --- and mind you "yellowstone" is 30,000 years overdue ---

In 2005 Haak et al. sequenced the DNA of 7500yo farmers from a grave in Derenburg, Germany. They found evidence of rare mtDNA and Y-DNA haplogroups that indicate "that these first Neolithic farmers did not have a strong genetic influence on modern European" populations.[21
YOU talk about upsetting the apple cart --- heck, this wrecked the whole farm --- (no pun intended)

This is from the observation of future civilizations who may have seen the Explorer capsule shot into space in the nineties. Western civilization is also called the Occident or, if you prefer, the Christian-Judaic or the Modern Industrial (?)

Here are a few titles off the top of my head. These are mostly focused on American history, but there are some interesting transnational and global works here as well. I'm not as familiar with European or Asian environmental history, but I'd be happy to provide a reading list of African titles to anyone who is interested.
