I have a dream

I love history and I am only 27.
My friends and my relations find history boring. Everything they know about it it's what Hollywood tells them about it.
But the fact is that Hollywood's version is not only mostly untrue but also that real history is much more interesting.
Therfore I'll write a blog. Not a serious one. It will not address the the big issues but the small ones. I want nothing to do with the reasons why empires rise and fall and the causes of the economic or military decline, I want to tell my readers about the mundane, the curious, the tragic or the incredible.
I know that there are similar webpages covering those issues but none of them is in spanish and none of the is from an argentinian perspective.
So, I am writing the articles, (i want to have several before publishing them). My first one is about Papinian and his death.
I hope I'll learn and share a lot with you guys. Thanks

Papinian was one of Roman Law greatest author. His ideas live, even today, in every country of roman legal tradition.
But he was an example as a lawyer, and as a public servant, not for his works but by the way he died.
While historians only agree that he was executed soon after Caracalla murdered his brother Gelba, I choose to belive that Gibbon's description is accurate:
Caracalla ordered Papinian to use his talents as a lawyer and as a politician to "justify" the horrible deed. Papinian answered: "It's easier to commit parricide than to justify it"...he was killed because of his bravery.
Gibbon concludes:

"Such intrepid virtue, which had escaped pure and unsullied from the intrigues courts, the habits of business, and the arts of his profession, reflects more lustre on the memory of Papinian, than all his great employments, his numerous writings, and the superior reputation as a lawyer, which he has preserved through every age of the Roman jurisprudence".

I suppose laws and rules are just words on paper ,unless you have some way of enforcing them. (policeman)
He sounds like an interesting character, and I hope you teach us more about him .
