Hello from Germany

Hi everyone,

I am from south-western Germany (near the French border), the region of Baden - between Frankfurt in the north, Stuttgart in the east, Alsace in the west and Switzerland in the south.
I am currently studying in Jerusalem (MA in Theology) and am very interested in European and Levante history, but also the history of the US and history in general.

Recently I am especially interested in the ancient Greek and Phoenician seafaring civilizations in the east Mediterranean region.

Another thought I want to share with you: I just watched a documentary about the history of Germany, beginning with the Germans in the Roman time up to today. Germany had such a great history... until 1933...
I feel that World War II and our own stupidity in this period destroyed Germany forever. I wish the Allies had exterminated us in 1945, after 1945 our country never recovered, despite the economical wonder. We have developed into a faceless, prideless, childless country full of immigrants and without a profile. We are economically successful, but a country without a soul. The losers of World War II (and rightfully so) and the losers of history. We didnīt rise like a phoenix from the ashes, but as a last, useless bubble, which is about to pop and seal the great tragedy of our people forever.

Never mind. I just told him that, despite being not Israeli, I can communicate in Hebrew (to some degree at least).

Welcome, though I find your final comments unduly gloomy!

Thanks for the Welcome!

If you look at how Germany, under the Franks, became the leading power of Medieval Europe, and how, after shaking off the envious Frenchīs military grip, it was on its way to become a great country again in 1871, and then you see the total and utter evil and destruction during the Third Reich, it is just a tragedy. What our country did and what it costed us.
From a proud, magnificent super power turned into an average, declining, faceless, cold nothing with a dark history. We lost much of our country, manpower, pride, spirit, reputation. Germany is done, a mere shadow of itself. And that process began in 1933.

As we have an Israeli here: so many Israelis learn German nowadays, visit Berlin... itīs a waste of time in my opinion. Germany has nothing to offer. The Germans wanted the "total war" and what they got is the end of Germany. Everything else is a dream.
Donīt go to a Goethe Institute, donīt waste time and money on a garbage dumb and its language.
