Probably not as exciting as you may think but it's a nickname good old Edinburgh got during Enlightenment
Actually we do in fact have an unfinished 'Parthenon' which they started building on a hill in the centre in order to commemorate Scottish soldiers who died in the Napoleonic Wars.
This was in the 1820s I believe. Eventually they wanted to build the whole Acropolis there though after a few years and a few bits of the Parthenon standing they ran out of money and it was never finished. Officially it's called the 'National Monument of Scotland' but it's nicknames range from 'Disgrace' to 'The Acropolis'.
