Wimpy and sedentary current Homo sapiens

We are often labelled as wimpy and sedentary in comparison with our ancestors, and is this valid at all?
Many of us hold sedentary jobs, and our daily activities are much less strenuous than our ancestors.
For example, the introduction of washing machines and dryers both save physical works and energies.
Many of us are apartment dwellers who do not worry about backyard issues.
Are we really a group of couch potatoes?

Humans are individuals. Yes, some are like that, others aren't.

Because of all the things that make life easier, people do tend to be more lazy and "wimpy" nowadays though.

Not really, those who live in the apartment have choices to go to the gym, the swimming pool, play basketball or jog. Life is a choice.

If I understand the OP correctly, the point is not whether they have a choice, but what choice they make

I think this is a rather lazy argument usually made by grumpy old men moralizing about the past and claiming everything used to be better when they were young (despite the fact that it wasn't).

There's often a sort of moral judgement attached, as if modern people deserve to be criticised for the fact that they live in a relatively more comfortable time. But since we don't have a choice of when we are born, this is largely nonsense.

The reality is basic human nature hasn't changed all that much in the last 50,000 years and we are still much the same as our ancestors. Drop one of them in the modern day as a baby and they'd grow up just the same as any modern person.

We're not lazy, many people work extremely hard in their jobs and not everyone has an easy or cushy life. Such claims are usually little more than hot air by people who have sour grapes about modern life and just want to moan.

^ha ha ha, I like that argument. The modern life has its own character of difficulty.

Modern life gives much more opportunities to young people than to my generation. And I think it is very good. I am happy that my children don't have waste hours everyday coocking, washing, cleaning and so on.
20 years ago we had no all those household machines and internet shops so my wife had to abandon her job to sit with children. Now I have to listen that she sacrificed her bright scientific carrier for me and kids every other day

There are people today are in better shape than any previous humans in history (elite pro athletes).

On the whole, aside from life-saving and extending technology we as a species are in worse shape today than in days past before civilization.
