What is the ideal composition of a family?

The question is not only about the ideal number of kids, which means that we include pets and other members of family.

Please answer about the ideal family, do not consider parenting quality and financial problems, which are very important, let us just focus on the composition itself of a family, regardless other factors.

I don't think you could possibly say.

After all it totally depends on the people in the family to make a good family.

Absolutely, you are right, people and the parenting quality is the most critical factor for a success in family life. But let's just imagine the ideal parenting and the ideal family, regardless other criteria that are indeed way more critical than the composition itself of a family.

Other critical factors that impede my voting is that how many kids we should have also depends on population/resources comparisons; as well as the infant mortality rate ofcourse.

I could imagine a large family, including cats, dogs, cattle and grandparents is a nice thing to have, and to grow up into. It's a lot easier with just one kid, but that way the population halves each generation, so that seems to be an evolutionary nono. Two kids? A stable population, until something happens. I think the safest thing is to have about 2.5 kids, population-wise.
