Sounds exactly like the kids I grew up with in Grosse Pointe Shores, blowing their inheritances.

What would be wrong with having both people who are elected into the HoL and those who inherit their positions? Perhaps it is just my American mentality, but isn't a mish-mashed population in government an integral part of democracy?

No, the alternative is an elected senate. That system (in theory) is less likely to be corrupt as the positions are temporary rather than for life.
