How does playing video games change the way we behave?

One of the theories that I've heard is that video games are the main reason kids have trouble paying attention in standard classes. They claim that their brains become accustomed to quick changes and colorful images. Also, video games give quick rewards while classrooms don't. This was only a theory, but this study shows that video games do effect the way our brains work.

Quote:

Action Videogames Change Brains
A team led by psychology professor Ian Spence at the University of Toronto reveals that playing an action videogame, even for a relatively short time, causes differences in brain activity and improvements in visual attention.
Previous studies have found differences in brain activity between action videogame players and non-players, but these could have been attributed to pre-existing differences in the brains of those predisposed to playing videogames and those who avoid them. This is the first time research has attributed these differences directly to playing video games.

So, how will these games affect the way we go about our lives?

How do video games effect my behaviour? Before when I hit people with my car, I was concerned, now I make sound effects and keep a tally of points!

I remember a segment on the Daily Planet where it was claimed that video games actually increase concentration and puzzle solving. With how easy video games are now, I doubt it. But this seems to confirm that theory

'If Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills, and listening to electronic music' - Marcus Brigstocke

But I don't think they can, at least to the extent that many researchers and suburban mums often claim. They certainly can't harm an otherwise healthy mind to the extent where you'd want to hurt someone or commit crime. People who go all moralistic about banning them are exceptionally annoying, and often quite ignorant on what games actually include.

Well, there is one definite effect they had on me back when I used to play them. I was able to have fun by myself more. At times, I was playing with other people, as in playing chess online, but it was someone I didn't know. I still interacted with the people around me, but video games made me need them less.

I thought that playing video games didn't affect me at all. Then, on my first ever visit to New York City, everything around me looked so much like Liberty City that, as I walked through Times Square, I actually had to fight an urge to dive into a car, throw the driver out and go off on a killing spree!!! Seriously! I actually thought, for just one brief second, that I was in a game!

So maybe it does affect me after all.

Ever since playing Mario games I've been trying to eat mushrooms by jumping on them.

I have been playing video games for years, and it allows me to get out all of my frustrations without doing something stupid

I have trouble concentrating anyway, and so I don't really notice a difference

If there are other video game players here on XBox, let me know
