Why does hatred exist in a world where people should be more open to each other? Why does one religion that denounces any type of hatred, hate another religion?

Because we don't understand them. Typically people react very predictably when it comes to the unknown, they fear and with fear they hate it.

It is a genetic/evolutionary feature necessary to survival...just like loving, fear, caution, acceptance, etc.

It those individuals who look beyond the differences and take the time to understand others.

They are nurtured and learned from the society they live in. If it was genetic then there would be no suicide bombers because all humans would be born with fear of death.

But you cannot nuture what doesn't already exist.

They most certainly are !
When a person gets on a busy bus or train, the first thing they look for is an empty seat ? failing that, they look for a familiar person to sit next to, failing that, they look for a safe looking person to sit next to.
People aren't gregarious, they're tribalistic/clanish by nature, people don't trust strangers, it's genetic programming? It's how the human race managed to survive against all the odds.
Now that we live in a safe(ish) world/enviroment, it's time we learned how to override our basic instincs and use our intelligence a bit more

There is also the need to apportion blame other than on oneself.
