If Alexander Sailed West?

If Alexander the Great, upon consolidating his Greek subjects, had used this time to sail west to the Italian peninsula and embarked on a conquest of similar size there, what might the world look like today?

Would he have had to change his tactics to suit the terrain?

Would the Persians seek to conquer Greece while he was away?

Could Alexander have recognized the potential manpower in Italy?

Rome may not have been powerful, or Carthage would become a major state in the Mediterranean. Maybe Carthage would ally with Alexander, and share the spoils in Rome. However, he surely would have heard/known of Rome, but then it was in the early Republic phase, and not really a major power yet. I think his target was always Persia, due to the evident history between them. He no doubt would have conquered much of Europe, maybe even up to Britain and the Germanic areas.

Then Much of Hellenistic culture wouldn't be in Persia and India, Egypt would still be ruled by Persians, and the Persian empire would still exist. He probably would have taken modern-day Albania, The Italian penensula,Coastal Montenegro,Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia,Slovenia, The Italian islands,Malta, and possibly Carthage and the Balearic islands.
