Hitler takes Holland, Lithuania, Latvia, Sweden and Estonia 1n June, 1938

OTL
After the annexation of Austria in April 1938 nobody expected war in Europe soon. Holland and Sweden least of all. The Dutch and Swedish armies were even more ridiculous in 1938 than in 1940, when Holland capitulated in 3 days, with its army fully deployed and expecting invasion, 8 months into the war.

In June 1938 the LW is the strongest air force in west Europe, including the RAF.

In peacetime no country is mobilized and RN and French fleets have reduced crews, so a rapid, effective response is out of the question.

Britain does not yet have the Spitfire and has few pilots and fighters and a lot of obsolete biplanes and monoplanes.

ATL
After annexing Austria, Hitler pulls out of Spain (where he is wasting a lot of money and equipment and to appeace the allies and Soviets) and starts preparing a multiple invasion, in order to use the invaluable surprise factor to maxium effect.

Terribly weak Holland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Sewden had the most valuable location in the world. Occupying Holland would render Belgium and France untenable, because the strong fortifications in east Belgium and the Maginot are outflanked.
If Britain declares war, it will be exposed to U-boats and the LW operating from Holland, within range of London. Therefore, If Holland falls in days, If Holland falls in days, unmobilized Britain and France will not dare declare war on Germany.

Holland has urgently needed shipyards, coast, Phillips (producer of most of the bulbs in Europe), a strong agriculture, a large merchant fleet, etc, Its army is much smaller and more poorly armed than the Belgian army. Holland has the invaluable DEI, which can supply oil, rubber, tin, etc, for Germany and Japan, if Britian does not declare war.

The Baltic countries enable rapid campaigns in Poland and the USSR, starting close to crucial Minsk, Lengingrad, Rzhev, Kronstadt, etc,

Invading Sweden provides the valuable Bofors AAA factory, explosives industry, iron and copper ore, shipyards, etc, and renders Finland untenable, so it can be annexed to rapidly isolate Murmansk and attack Leningrad from a very short distance and from the north.

Invasions:
a) Holland, at dawn:
1) 200 Lufthansa Ju-52 full of troops will land in arports and airfields all over Holland. Seize them, recinforcements will land all day and warplanes will be deployed there.

2) Troops hidden in cargo and KN ships in Rotterdam and 2 other ports debark to seize the port with naval gun and air support and enable reinforcements to debark, including motorcycle troops.

3) German trains loaded enter Holland at full speed and advance as deeply as possible, before stopping and deboard troops, cannon, vehicles, supplies, etc,

4) 20,000 motorcycles, a Panzer division, 3 motorized divisions and 4 infantry divisions enter Holland at full speed. Mtorcycle forces race along the Belgian-Dutch border (both from the German border and from Rotterdam) to isolate Holland.

5) Holland receives an ultimatum to surrender within 2 hours or all cities and large towns, not yet occupied will be bombed or shelled.

Holland has practically no army and there are over 60,000 Germans in Holland 1.5 hours into the invasion, Rotterdam, all airports and most airfields and most of the Belgian border have fallen. Holland capitulates, 12 minutes before the ultimatum expires.

b) The Baltic countries at dawn:
1) Troops debark in Tallin and Riga and seize the crucial ports with naval gun and air support. Reinforcements land at seized ports all day.

2) 100 Ju 52 land in airports amd airfields in Estonia and Latvia and seize them. Reinforcements and warplanesland all day.

3) 25,000 motorcycles, 2 Panzer divisions, 4 motorized divisions and after them 5 infantry divisions rush into Lithuania, when it capitulates, they continue to Latvia and then to Estonia to secure the Soviet border.

4) all 3 countries receive a 2 hour ultimatum to capitulate or have all large towns and cities not yet seized bombed or shelled.

Lithuania has practically no air force or navy and a small army, it capitulates with an hour. The capitulation and rapid occupation of Lithuania and the fall of Riga, airfields, etc, induce Latvia and Estonia to capitulate, before they are bombed.

c) Sweden:
The night before the invasion, Swedish waters are mined.
at dawn:
1) Troops debark in Stockholm, Gotland, Gotebory, etc, Reuinforcements debark in seized ports all day, including motorcylces and motorized forces.
2) 200 Ju 52 land troops in airports and airfields all over Sweden. Reinforcements and warplanes land all day.
3) and warships are attacked by submarines, surface ships and warplanes.
4) The Bofors plants are secured by troops landed in closeby airfields. Denying the Swedes it invaluable weapons.
5) The meager Swedish aviation is wiped out on the ground.
5) Sweden receives the 2 hour ultimatum for bombing and shelling.

The loss of crucial ports, 6 ships, airports and airfields, Gotland (an island where Germany deploys planes and cannot be attacked by the army), the capital, etc, the facts that Sweden alone is untenable with strong forces in it and there is not time to receive foreign aid, induce Sweden to capitulae 14 minutes before the ultimatum expires.

All countries are rapidly occupied. 3 days later, Denmark, Finland and Belgium receive a 2 hour ultimatum to capitulate or be bombed and invaded. Denmark is extremely weak and complies within an hour. Belgium has a stronger and very effective army, but few planes, armor, etc, and its formidable forts in the east (Eben Emael, etc,) are useless. It capitulates 8 minutes, before the ultimatum expires. Finland has extremly few planes, a small army, 19th century cannon, etc, and it is thoroughly impressed by the German use of combined arms attack (air, land and sea). It complies.

A week after the initial invasions, Germany invades Slovenia and Croatia, which wellcome the invaders, since they hate their Serbian masters.

While the British and French governments and military conclude that it is too late to declare war, since they still have not mobilized and Germany has huge ressources now.

Germany offers Poland and alliance against the USSR. Germany will send tooling, engines, etc, to produce at least 500 Hs 123 per year, which together than cheap AT guns towed by trucks are more effective, faster, etc, against Soviet armor than slow, expensive and difficult to produce Panzers.

Well, the distances are shorter, but the problems seem to be roughly the same as with your other threads of the same kind.

The Kriegsmarine still in 1938 is rather smaller than the one Germany eventually went into WWII with. For capital ships it's still stuck with it's three pre-WWI pre-dreadnaughts. And for large modern heavy cruisers it still only has the Graf Spee operational. And only six light cruisers.

So that's Germany dividing it's scant naval forces between the Netherlands — not a mean maritime power in itself, with a far-flung colonial empire demanding blue-water navy capabilities to at least some extent — the Baltics states (which admittedly have little in the way of navies) — and Sweden, which (and it might surprise you) in 1938 would still have to rated as the most powerful navy in the Baltic.

So, how will you distribute the Krigsmarine as-is in 1938 between the operations?

Why invade Sweden ?... They were de facto doing all that Germany wanted... They supplied about half of Germany's iron during WW2 and even allowed the transit of german troops..

And to think everyone would stand by and do nothing while Germany invades half a dozen countries is a bit of a stretch...

Invading the Baltic states is war with the soviet union, which overruns Romania is a week. What exactly is Germany doing for Oil?

Holland is war with Britain and France.

All the Swedes pick up beer and go camp out in the woods for a few years until the war is over.

The name Fritz is banned in the country afterwards.

The Soviet Union is in the middle of the purges, killing its best generals and fieldmarshals, including Tukhachevski and in no condition for war. It has not dared to invade even very weak Finland and Estonia, much less Romania and definitely not fight Germany, which can easily march through Hungary, Bulgaria to get the oil in Ploesti. The LW would immediately reinforce Romania to defend Ploesti, a long ways from the Soviet border. Hell, even in 1940, Stalin did nt dare to invade all of Romania (the invaluable Ploesti), he too only Bessarabia and part of Bukovina, very far from Ploesti. Even in June 1941, when there were millions of Germans across the border, Stalin waited till he was invaded, because he didnīt dare declare war. Stalin has to fight Romanian and German forces with his lousy logistics and tactics.

The war is over for Sweden in days. Itīs hard for millions to live in the woods without grain, fish, etc, Moose do not reproduce fast enough to feed millions. The few Jews in Baltic countries, etc, living in the woods had a hellacious time, imagine millions.

Sweden did not sell AAA, submarines, DD, etc, to Germany and Germany had to pay with badly needed steel for all the iron ore, etc, that it bought. As stated, Sweden had valuable industry, shipyards, educated population, ores and most importantly location to force Finland to request annexation, rather than being invaded by Germany and the USSR (as Poland was OTL), enabling Germnay to attack Leningrad on the 1st day of the war, instead of months into it, after heavy Panzer losses all the way from East Prussia, as OTL!

Germany does not even have to invade Poland (alone stronger than all 6 armies involved. Poland had hundreds of planes and tanks and thousands of cannon and hundreds of thousands of service men). It is far easier to invade 6 weak, more valuable, unsuspecting countries, capitulating individually in hours, than a strong country, expecting invasion.

The KM is quite strong in the ATL time of invasion and more than adequate for the very weak Dutch and Swedish navies. Denmark, Estonia, lithuania and Latvia have ridiculous navies. You forgot all the big ships (old Schleswig-Holstaein, which opened the war in Poland, BB, DD, etc,

It is incredible that OTL the KM deployed DD all the way to Narvik to transport troops and seize and defend the port. The DD arrived without fuel and were trounced. It had plenty of CL to send there, which would have trounced RN DD and could have bipassed the mine fields in Norway, with their long range. ATL distances are far shorter for the KM and the LW can provide much better cover.

I’m sorry, but this is very far fetched.

Why would Germany invade a country helping them, why? why on earth waste troops occupying Sweden when they were de facto assisting the Reich.

And why Holland? It has no use whatsoever. and do tell me how the pratically non existent kreigsmarine can go against the joint navies of Britain, France, Sweden, Holland, Russia.

If Germany took former Russian states, states that have been owned by Russia for hundreds of years. they would fight. I don’t even think hitler was stupid enough to want to take Latvia and risk war with the Soviet Union.

What is Latvia useful for? Does it have an abundance of oil? Iron? Factories?

No, it doesn’t. the only use it has is to look cool on a map. You’d be looking at an allied alliance earlier than the one we got. Germany would’ve fallen by 1943/4.
