Well in 500 years from now, I don't believe that the future generation would remember anything from our current civilization, they would be living the new dark ages...
They would look at the ruins of our skyscrapers and wonder what kind of magic was used to build it...
I don't know, I have a very pessimist view about our future, currently we are consuming more resources than what the earth can accommodate, the number of humans is on the rise, the rain forests, fossil fuel, water sources are being depleted, and on the top of all that we are heading toward a severe climate change...
I don't think that we have enough time to invent new tech to replace our dependency on fossil fuel, and we'll end up having war on all over the globe to control the remaining natural resources...
You know i've read the other day an article claiming that the Marsh Arab in modern day Iraq are probably the descendants of ancient Sumerians, they have the same type of housing and of agriculture with one exception, the Sumerians were living a more advanced and a more easy life from their descendants... Would the same thing happen to us ?

This spoiled brat would probably say:
What the heck is the laptop, and what is a keyboard why can't they focus on Hyper-Active Transport insted of nuclear weapons, and warfare, and stupid fairytales or superheroes like Red riding hood Or Superman.

I agree. History has become more accelerative since the Industrial Revolution firmly entrenched itself the 19th century. After the mid-20th (WWII), it is even gaining even more speed now thanks to the leaps and bounds progression of the Information Age due, in part, to the transition of many facets of society from atoms to bits.
Industrial wise, let's think of the aircraft used for Wright brother's flight in 1903, and fast forward about 78 short years later and look at, say, the F-117 Nighthawk; of course, there are many examples. Advances in technology from the American Revolution to the American Civil War are interesting to analyze as well. Post WWII (info age), consider how profound the concept that we can store as much information on a device the size of our thumb that just 60-odd years ago would have taken a library to house. Nanotechnology will likely take history on a course we cannot even begin to fathom. So with that who knows how they will view us.
Just for fun. . . .
As a young boy, I would fantasize about having a time machine so I could go back to, say, the days of the Roman Empire and light a lamp with a Bic lighter, or do donuts in the middle of the Colosseum with a Corvette. I wonder what they would have said, what they would have thought. My father used to jokingly tell me someone would have probably run me through if I pulled out a Game Boy in some medieval court. Perhaps they really would have. . . .
In the same fashion, if someone from 500, 1000, or 2000 years in the future could travel back to our time with their technology - something simple such as a lighter equivalent, or something complex such as a Corvette equivalent what would we say? It's hard, if not impossible, to imagine but a damn fascinating thought to say the least.
I'm now in the mood for some good futurology readings - someone please give me a few good recommendations. Isoroku, to directly answer your question, what do I believe people 500 years from now will say about this world today? I don’t know, probably something like, “Haha, they used to write, how laborious!” It’ll probably be some brain linked device that allows instant writings from mere thoughts. History teacher to students: Okay class, I want a “paper” on governmental themes and technology of early 21st century Western societies. (5 seconds later) Class: Okay, we're finished. Ready for us to hand this in? Also, our relationship with the terrestrial planets and various satellites of our solar system as it relates to exploration and settlement is, very roughly, akin to the relationship the Vikings and Africans shared with the Americas - less even. So that class could likely be on Mars or the Moon, or beamed to or from it. One of the US flags now on the Moon may be in some lunar museum built on one of their present locations. They might remark at how Americans landed there, planted a flag and thought, "We win, MINE!" What a fun question, Thank You! | | |

Neo-pagan rituals are a hodge-podge mishmash of whatever's considered sufficiently old to be included; its an all-star cast from every dead religion. Should Christianity fall, a millenia or two later, Jesus and Osiris will be invoked by the same sort of people in a single breath.
