know what would be even scarier than cheyennes on thunderbirds? aztecs on pterosaurs. dinotopia may have gotten it right when they had quetzalcoatlus-like pterosaurs being used as mounts, even though they were used for a non-military roles. can you imagine how terrifying it would be to cortez and the spanish if they were marching on tenochtitlan and suddenly a huge flock of pterosaurs the size of small planes flew overhead, with aztec warriors dropping bee's nests on them?
and im not even kidding about their size, quetzalcoatlus was ******* HUGE! it was taller than a damn TYRANNOSAURUS! theres actually a really cool picture floating around of two quetzalcoatlus mates actually effectively scaring a rex away from their nest, dwarfing it by, like, ten feet or so
and quetzalcoatlus wasnt limited to the air. its now believed that many pterosaurs may not have hunted like eagles or hawks as was previously believed, but were instead more like storks or herons, using their ability to fly to close in on prey and then landing, hobbling the remaining distance on all fours before snapping up their prey in their beaks. considering quetzalcoatlus' size, humans would probably be on the menu
