I've always been interested in the origin story as I believe it gives some indication that there might have been some Alani involvement.

Ghengis did have red hair and green eyes. However this does not make him Causcasian at best it makes him Eurasian (half caucasian, half asian) and certainly does not apply to the rest of his army or tribe.
Retaining red hair and blue eyes is rare for mixed people, but Khans surprise about his son does not have red hair could show his mixing
with asian women, therefore Ghengis Khans son could look more eurasian than himself.

Ah, it was his grandson, not his son. It was probably wishful thinking from a granddad. It wasn't uncommon for there being mixing, as Genghis himself married outside his own clan too.

Alans - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are two aspects in the origin story that might indicate so. First the woman. The name translates into beautiful Alan. The other part is the glittering man. That could equally be an Alani warrior. It sounds as if it is talking about the connecting between two peoples, so I doubt if it is between two sets of Alani people. It's a connection which might be there.

His legend also has that he had so many women that he could not even remember how many.

It could be that he didn't set out to count them, and there was many.
