I don't know that much about American politics, but I do believe that the concept of secession seems to be downplayed in the world today. Parhaps I'm wrong with that, I don't know. Still, I reckon that if some state or region of a country that already had a distinct identity discovered oil, well, the odds of secession go up, by more than a little bit.

While there remains a strong sense of southern identity, it's mild to what it was 150 years ago or even 30 years ago.

Texas and Florida have huge Hispanic populations.

The Carolinas and Georgia have large Black populations, and they can vote this time.

Nearly every southern state, except possibly the more rural states of Arkansas or Alabama, have large White urban northern transients. Neither of these demographics would go for succession.

Even if somehow they got past this, a few smear campaigns or a couple well placed bullets by our fine government operatives would end any serious attempts at succession

southern people today are very Patriotic, during 4th of July, every town in the south there is barbeque EVERYWHERE!!!!!! We would never secede!
