1 - WW1 and WW2 would have the same endings. It wasn't planes that decided the outcome of both wars, but the superiority in resources of the Entente-Allies that resulted in victory in those long wars of attrition.

2 - Today without airplanes the train companies will be better off and we would have many very fast trains connecting the world. They would be slower than airplanes but they would be better than anything else.

Considerable. planes communicated the gap in the German armies in 1914, air reconnaissance was vital in planning artillery barrages and spotting during same. "Flying machine guns" and bombs were extremely useful in interdicting enemy movements and damaging their morale, the list goes on.

As usual, Belisarius takes us to the, uh, nub of the matter. My guess: Nestle profits would be even more astronomical.

Without planes?

I presume that the geopolitical situation would have been "frozen" at the situation of late 19th century.

Without understanding the physics of the flight of something heavier than air didn't make it impossible to develop rocket tech. [Rockets existed already in 19th century and they use the reaction not the aerodynamics to fly].

So missiles would have substituted the air force in long range attacks. But only in WW II they would have reached a certain level of effectiveness.

Navy and artillery and then, with the introduction of tanks, the armored forced would have been the core of the armies in battle.

My guess is that without planes, during the years of WW II the technology of missiles would have run very fast and instead of carrier we would have see missile boats in the oceans.
