I feel that Joan of Arc was a little crazy, had visions and the armies got drawn into the fact that she was in direct communication with 'god' supporting their cause.

Boudica was fierce warrior queen who took on Rome.
And failed.

Granted, I'm not big on military history but my understanding is that Boudica had a fleeting "success" by pillaging a poorly defended (what is now) Colchester - when it came time to really face the Roman army, her people were slaughtered. I admire her courage and ability to rally other tribes and lead them all, especially as a woman - and I sympathize with her desire for revenge. She is certainly worth studying. But as far as I can see, she was a military failure.

The poll was not intended to define who won and who lost, I know that Boudica was defeated by the Romans.

Boudica - a queen, tough and fierce gathering the tribes to fight the Romans..... Joan of Arc - a woman that hears voices and thinks she talks to god gets involved in a war and manages to convince the men of the military into her madness. I find it hard to believe that she was superior to the other generals and the likes in the army.

We will have to agree to disagree.

She defeated the Nineth Legion in 'battle'.

But Boudicca mostly just slaughtered civilians, once she came up against a real army she was utterly crushed.

Joan of Arc fought against a real army and won. Whether she was mad or not is a matter of opinion. I think not.

[QUOTE=Shadow Dragon;759693]Why is it that people doubt that Joan is the one that led her army? Where is it actually written from people of that time that she was just a figurehead?[

It isn't written by anyone, but it is what people nowadays want to believe. I suspect it is her religious faith that upsets people, faith makes people uneasy in this secular age. They think anyone who says she has had visions must be a nutter, regardless of any evidence to the contrary.

I voted Joan of Arc because she had to fight with english army but she also had to fight with hegemony of men.

Considering the age this one act, in and of itself, is spectacular. Just getting the Dauphine, and his staff, to convince you, a 17 year old girl, to lead French forces in saving the country is an action that shows off her confidence, skill, and determination in the face of a more extreme amount of adversity that very, very few in history have faced and conquered.
