Lysander & Leonidas Vs Pelopidas & Epaminondas

That would be Leonidas I (think 300) and Lysander (think Haliartus) against the Theban two Epaminondas & Pelopidas.

Remember, it may be Sparta Vs Thebes, but the Spartan generals are different.

Everything equal, arms and soldier numbers.

Who would win?

It's hard to judge Leonidas, since pretty much all we know about him is the Thermopylae Campaign.

What can be judged however, is the class of men. Because of this, it is important to know the era of the soldiers being commanded. This is important because the Spartiates of Leonidas' time are a different breed from those of Agesilaos, and I think that it is safe to say that these men simply would not turn.

Acknowledging that, I still believe that Pelopidas & Epaminondas would have a tactical edge because they are already familiar with the battlefield mannerisms of their foes. It would come down to whether or not Leonidas (who would be commanding the right), could recognize what Pelopidas was up to sooner than Cleombrotus did at Luectra.

This would be nothing more than a coin flip to see who takes the day.
