USA now vs Rest of the World in 1900

Who do you think would win this tremendous battle: a modern day, highly militarized and powerful America with all of today's technology, or the whole World in the beginning of the 20th century.

USA obviously. If all those 1900 countries up and said "What a bully day, let's go give a licking to those up-time losers sitting in their loser cruisers" then we just fire off a missile to any major target of our choosing and we win. I'm not sure what kind of debate or complex discussion you were looking for, the answer is all to clear. It would take a post-1950 world to so much as stand a chance against us, and that's if they got incredibly lucky and we were really dumb.

The question is a bit confusing. "A modern day highly militarized" nation could, today, apply to China, Russia, United Kingdom, Turkey, India and America, pretty much equally, in my opinion.

In an all out land/air/sea/cyber war the outcome would definitely NOT be pre-ordained.

Military hegemony is not a given.

I think you're misinterpreting the question. The thread's title puts it more succinctly and simply. He's asking who wins in a fight, the USA as it is now in 2012, or the rest of the world as it was in 1900.

@ugabug: A single nuke seems unnecessary, they'd be wowed enough by airplanes (the Wright Brothers built their airplane in 1903), let alone unmanned combat drones. Or jet aircraft.

I'm pretty sure 1950 USA could whoop everybody too.

The US makes up above 40% of global military spending. It has a budget larger than the next 17 countries combined. I'm pretty sure it could whoop the following 20 TODAY on its own.
