The British had the same plan, but had to give it up because there were no motorway services between here and the Moon where they could stop for a cup of tea.

No, definitely the Americans. According to the Sunday Sport the bomber was a B52. (Which isn't WWII but that's the tabloids for you).

Well, Archimedes had the idea of moving the earth. All he needed was a place to stand. Fortunately, that was out of the question. I don't know where he was going to move it to. I'm sure he would have thought of some place.

Luckily, this hasn't been a serious trend in history--assaulting planets, moons and whatnot. If it did become a trend, we'd have to think of a name for it, and I don't know what the Greek is for "heavenly-bodies-phobia".

Clearly you're not a reader of the venerable Sunday Sport sah! It says, er, according to what my mate told me... That it was indeed a US bomber but flown by RAF aircrew. I imagine only the crabs could go that far off course.
