If Siam was ever invaded by a Westorn Power what would it be?

Siam was not taken over by a country until 1941 if a western nation did get to Siam which?

I think Germany would have taken over Siam because of the fact there was British India and French IndoChina. That would have given Germany an advantage in attacking French IndoChina during Wolrd War 1. After World War 1 I am sure Germany would give up Siam to Japan

Well France controlled Indochina and Britain was to the west. Siam had extensive treaties with both and was a buffer between them. France nearly came to war with Siam, blockading the country, and only backed down due to concessions on the part of the Siamese IIRC. So France. If not France, Britain. With all respect, I just don't see anything suggesting Germany had interest in Siam, and they never had any sort of capablities in Asia to make this happen. Especially during WWI when surrounded by more powerful colonial countries.

It seems pretty obvious to me why Canada is not listed.

Seriously tough, France would be the perfect candidate. It had the will to expand in this area and the perfect place to start such an assault.
Who knows? It could make a coordinated assault with the British but this all depends on the period in which this assault would take place.

I would say France, they already had a strong presence in Indochina and based on their past attitude in that region they seem the most likely candidate.

I am not really sure why Portugal and Belgium are in that list, I don't recall Belgium having interest in the region or Portugal having the capability to conquer and hold that region.

I fail to see how Germany is even a candidate, given that it had no real presence in South-east Asia. The only realistic choices are Britain and France. Britain controlled the territory to the west and south (Burma and Malaysia) while France controlled the north and east, Laos and Cambodia.

The Thais have a monument to their victory over the French in WW2, but then, doesn't everyone...?

The British always had a stronger influence over South-East Asia than France because of Burma, but the French were a lot more aggressive towards Siam than Britain. My vote goes to France.

Germany had African colonies that they could have used they also had Island in the Pacific and another country I forgot the name. Those Island that Germany had in the Pacific could have helped because Germany gave those to Japan in the 1930's. Plus German East Africa could have played a key role in defending German Siam as it would be called
