What if the United States had kept the Philippines?

I'm thinking that the US puts Filipino independence on the backburner for a few years while it focuses on reconstruction in the Philippines, and later organizes the territory into 4 commonwealths: Mindanao, Visayas, Luzon, and maybe Sabah if the US is able to get it.

Later on when Vietnam breaks out and the Philippines become a very big center of operations, the 3/4 commonwealths are made into states.

Economically, the Philippines would be much better off. The nation has a great deal of potential, and is actually the second fastest growing economy in Asia. If the US had kept it the corrupt officials would not have ruined it. However, the population would not have tolerated the Americans well. They probably would have protested and fought to get the US to leave.

After the defeat a certain resistance against the American colonialism kept on up to 1913.

I can think that if US didn't conceded a commonwealth status to the group of isles in 1935, promising independence, during WW II I cannot exclude a new anti American resistance [and that would have been a trouble in the Pacific scenario].
