Spartacus wins...

The slave rebellion led by Spartacus is successful, the Roman Senate comes to an accommodation with the (now ex-)slaves. This accommodation includes a portion of the Empire (doesn't matter where) wherein the slaves can live as they wish.

This putative state is granted the status of an autonomous province of the empire.

For how long could such a state exist?

not long, with the Empire's want to have control, and the eventual regrowth of the army, as well as now gained knowledge of the ex-slaves fighting style, they would move in to attack, and probably, with the terrain of the land they (Rome) purposly chose, out-match the ex-slaves, thus putting them back under control. So basicly just as long as it would take to train more soldiers.

I agree with Isoroku on this one to be honest. Unless the slaves could raise an army as well. Though yeah I don't see peace lasting very long especially since they were slaves who rebelled. I mean in the last battle with Spartacus even though they lost the slave rebellion still kicked there butts. It wasn't just the romans came in and moped them up like juice off the floor. The legions after that battle they were completely depleted. Though in the end its their own falt for even turning back around just to plunder.

Re: Spartacus wins...

Spartacus found out the same thing that Hannibal did: Romans don't give up. They just take things to the next level.

Even if Spartacus had finished off Crassus he would have had to deal with Pompey and Lucullus. What's astonishing is that he lasted as long as he did.
