Nanking for me.

Dropping bombs is de-personal, the airmen don't know if their bombs hurt or killed anyone. They could guess though. No one was pleading for their lives with them and they weren't having callous competitions to see who could cut the most heads off in a day.

Nanking is in a whole other league than the other two. Not just in fatalities, but in brutality as well.

This. Strategic area bombing was the sad reality of WW2 and utilised by all combating nations during the war.

The blurring between civilian and military resources and personnel is one of the defining aspects of what makes WW2 a case of total war.

Nanking massacre. Totally needless and it didn't serve anything military benefit.

Dresden bombing was too very needless but least it gave some message for Soviets and probably bit affected to German war machine. But it didn't change much and caused needless suffer for civilians.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were terrible but direct invasion to main islands would has been worse.

Quite accurate.

If there isn't at least a convention stating this or that "war crime", or an international court, assembly ... doing the same after the events, to define a war action [even if it looks excessive, particularly cruel ... but when war is not cruel? You know, in case of war to kill is no more generally a crime ... ] a war crime is a later interpretation. And it means to decontextualize what happened.
