Lightbulb Roman Military Salutes

Is there any evidence for how Roman soldiers may have saluted one another, or their superiors? I've seen reconstructions of legionaries saluting with their hand flat across their forehead, but I don't know if there's any evidence for them actually doing it this way.

This?

Although, as it says, theres no evidence. It's one of those things in history that no one would ever think of writing down, possibly.

Yeah, I know that the common belief is that the "Roman Salute" used by Italian Fascism and Mussolini and later by the Nazis is the same salute that the ancient Romans used. I don't know how much real evidence there is for this though.

Re: Roman Military Salutes

Note that the Bellamy salute(also known as the Civilian salute) was proper in the USA until FDR changed it to the hand over the heart for obvious reasons. Whether or not it was a true Roman Salute, it was meant to be mimicking the Romans. The "West" is the people who inherited Greek and Roman Culture.

Cool post!
