Is American a synonym for USA? Is not America a continent (actually two)?

Do explain.

Likewise. In terms of scale, the American Civil War certainly measures up.

Seriously: when you Americans fought against each other it was pathetic
You would probably be well advised to stop using that word.

Your armies have been badly trained and led militias with no spirit and commitment. European armies would eat your Grants and Lees in no time because they have been much better led and trained.

When you have pushed out of USA you have been always having much more of everything: equipment and men so it is not much to compare and to evaluate abilities. Many people could have been generals with USA's material superiority.
Slovenia is and has always been a weak and insignificant nation. How many people study Slovenian history outside of Slovenia? Your country has produced very little of note, and your inferiority complex is showing.

I just compare decisiveness of civil war battles, casualties (some time ago I defended a thesis that most of your civil war battles have had less than 5% of casualties (kia, wia and mia together)), absence of elite units and of last stand engagements.

USA's population in 1860 was 31 mil, France's around 37 mil and Germany 34 mil. Very comparable.

-Franco-Prussian war(1870-1871)
Sedan (1870): 330.000 combatants.

-Austro-Prussian war(1866)
Königgrätz (1866): 430.000 combatants.

Yes, USA was not having means to gather together so many men. I'm obviously not mentioning European mopping operations with few thousands to max few tens of thousands in colonial theaters.

What is wrong with word pathetic?

Please where are you from so I can write some comments about your nation?

Please mod warn this user against trolling, he's got obvious problems with non sequitur remarks. I'm ashamed of our communist past and proud of my nation. We are comparable to all our neighbors with our history and development otherwise.

"America" is short-hand for The United States of America. It is located on the continent of North America.

"American" is he adjective for both the country and the continents.

I think it's the only country named after it's continent except South Africa and Central African Republic.

And of course, Australia.

(The answer to the question posed in the thread is Smedley Darlington Butler. http://valor.militarytimes.com/recip...cipientid=2879)

It was either ludicrous misinformation or deliberate deception on your part then, and repeating it now proves it to be the latter. Casualties in nearly every significant engagement of the war proved far higher than that. The existence of many minor skirmishes along with the major engagements does not distinguish American warfare from European warfare. In nearly every engagement where two major armies met, casualties were very high, often in both numbers and percentage. Below is a list of battle summaries of major engagements in the Civil War where the casualties were higher than what you claim; by proportion of troops engaged, there would be even more examples.
