Remembrance Day

In Flanders fields the poppies grow
Between the crosses row on row
That mark our place and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below

We are the dead.
Short days ago we lived
Felt dawn, saw sunset glow
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Great old poem. Flander's Field was just another in a long line of stupidly fought WWI battles. Old men send young men to die in wars, then sit around and talk about how brave the lads were....sip their tea and then go home to a warm bed.

Ironic that a Pro-War poem is now used to denote the so called "futility of the Great War"

in my local paper there was an article about a group of yobs that sprayed graffiti such as swastikas on the local war memorial on the night before the remembrance service.
