He Saved Togo for the noose....

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- John J. Wilpers Jr. went decades without publicly revealing details about his international headline-making exploits at the end of World War II, a string of silence befitting a former Army intelligence officer-turned-career CIA employee.

Interesting Diddy. I read in some book that the Japanese were so low on fuel at that point that they didn't have enough to transport the injured Tojo to the hospital and that is why the Americans were called. I can't remember the book that I read that in though.

Oh I just found the quote thanks to Google books.
The prize: the epic quest for oil, money & power

Probably thinking about Tojo's foolish failure, Prince Konoe was much more careful:

Just to be sure, he used potassium cyanide ...

And everyone he loved too (his brand-new wife and his dog, and the famous order on the III Reich's suicide for Doenitz), just to be sure ...

(It seems that the Scottish terrier was left alive; it was Eva's, not Adolf's)

P.S.: BTW, the name of this thread's title is misspelled ( "Togo" instead of "Tojo"); maybe a moderator would be able to correct it.

Just realized that, S. Sorry 'bout the typo. For those unfamiliar with Japanese history, Tojo was the Prime Minister of Japan from October 1941 through July of 1944. Togo was the Foreign Minister at the time of Pearl Harbor and again when the Japanese surrendered in August-September of 1945.

Sorry again for any confusion I may have caused.

I didn't either, P, and frankly hadn't even noted the emblem. But they apparently were part of the occupation force under MacArthur.
