Britain was also free to build up an Empire.

Salamis.Ancient era.
Tours or yarmuk,medieval era.
Battle of britain/moscow modern era.

Napoleon's defeat was more significant in that it paved way for german unification and not as much as world saved from french hegemony.As even if napoleon had won, after his death there would be no one to keep his empire from falling apart as the whole world rose against france.Same was not true for nazis in ww2 which was not just hegemonistic/imperialistic but essentially 'evil',they would not bother to follow on the mongols footsteps by wiping out whole people's and enslaving them.something bonaparte could never do no matter how much he won.
