Agreed, there was very little to be gained in saving just twenty men, Hitler could have flown out thousands over the period of the Siege. So many transports got in and left empty...

many actually carried out the wounded when they could but a good number of the transports never made it back to their original base.

Except that approximately 25,000 men, both wounded and irreplaceable specialists were flown out during the siege?

my grandfather was a survivor of stalingrad. 6th army calvary officer. could anyone get information about the prisoners that survived?

Hitler was delusional and maniacial.The 6th army was reputedly the best regular army in the wehrmacht.

theres a great 3 part documantary show on the battle with interviews of its survivers. the final episode follows them into siberia and then tells of there long journy home.

That's because other units on quite sections of the front were stripped of men & equipment to bring the 6th Army upto strength in readiness for the Operation Blau.
