Deadliest Weapon in History

I was wondering what everyone considers the deadliest weapon in history - in terms of casualties inflicted - to be. The gladius? The Brown Bess? Something else? Please note that nuclear weapons, and man himself do not count.

I can say Machine Gun, changed the syle that armies fought. And the Firebombs thrown by airplanes (a such attack caused in Tokyo 100.000 dead in one night !).
