People liked Chuchill I think. And at the time Stalin was saving Russia's butt from the Germans. But I'm sure after the war when Stalin went "loopy", I'm sure there were some assassination attempts.

Churchill's bodyguard, Walter Thompson, reports preventing a number of attempted assassinations, including by the IRA and Nazi agents.

One that stands out to me, and I may be mis-remembering it, involved Churchill skinny-dipping (apparently this is how he preferred to swim, it wasn't any hanky-panky) in America, during the war, and confronting an attempted assassin while naked. Again, I may be mis-remembering this, but the documentary series based on Thompson's diary did talk about something along these lines. It's probable that it was Thompson himself that invented the scene in a "IF there was to be an assassination there, this is what would have happened" kind of way.

Yeah if I was an assassin I don't think I could kill some naked guy.
