60+ year old WW2 news papers


A friend of mine on a different forum just posted these pictures from pittsburgh during ww2. I just thought I'd share as they are really interesting.

BTW are there any newspapers with their archives on line? I have found the Brooklyn Eagle but thats it. Of course I'm talking free.

It's amazing how we think nothing of documents when they have to do with current events but the next generation finds them to be a treasure.

Absolutely tremendously beautiful! See how much the papers thought that the African front (a British initiative) was going to sneak up on Hitler: 'Surprise!'. Isn't it also nice to see that only 6 months into the real European conflict (from the American point of view that is), in Dec. 1944, the main topic was the snow fall in Pittsburgh. I've never been to Pittsburgh, but I imagine it snows there a fair bit.

HistoryBuff7, you are so right, it make you wonder if we should be collecting newspapers ...
