Are you talk about the Europe we know and (semi) love, or some fantasy land. Europe has never been, and never will completely unified. The Mongols tried and fell once against a Roman legion with their german auxileries. Now, after the Romans were gone Europe was a free for all, but I doubt the Mongols could get a handle on the Celtic, Gaulic and Germanic tribes of central Europe and Britian. They did take a decent bit of eastern Europe though. We'll never really know I guess.

But you do raise a good point: Eastern nomads using similar tactics as the Mongols had already been defeated in Europe, and had been driven out before the Mongols came, which means that Europe wouldn't be so easy to conquer for the Mongols as many may say.

Germany would have gotten a hard time, but i can't see the mongols being succesful against an alliance of franco-norman army or a viking style army, considering the numbers they had. Also the alps would stopped any major invasion of italy.

I guess Batu with his falconer used to be able to conquer it without much efforts. IIRC "falconer" means some low rank status like "the Holy Roman Emperor". Batu Khan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia | | |

| Just a thought... was there a way into Western Europe that had large continuous pastures, did not involve mountain passes and eventually facing heavy horse in confined places?
If so, they had a chance.
